A rare case of trauma related dissociative identity disorder

Introduction Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a debilitating and controversial psychiatric with lifetime prevalence estimated around 1,5%. It remains underdiagnosed despite recognition in international classification of mental disorders. In fact, based on the DSM-5 criteria, DID characterised by two or more distinct personality states that coincide, fluctuating consciousness changing access to autobiographical memory. The aetiology has long been debated recent neuroimaging evidence supporting trauma model this condition. Objectives aim presentation describe case young female diagnosed related childhood trauma. Methods We also conducted literature review order discuss disorder. following keywords were searched through pubmed website: dissociative disorder, trauma, aetiology. Results report 20 years old no past medical, nor history. However, she had family history an uncle aunt chronic psychosis. Her father died when was 8, thus lived her mother brother sisters. She brilliant student started engineering studies. particular trait. raised within strict religious little time dedicated leisure activities. Importantly, since age 10, exposed mother’s extremist threatening discourses, death “grave’s torture” comprising many cultural beliefs. seeks for care complaining “soliloquy” became remarkable relatives.
